Love is the spice of life for this foodie couple. Their story began six years ago with a dash of fate and a pinch
Lindsey was working as the manager of the fast food chain, Which Wich, and John needed a job while waiting for a job opportunity in Baton Rouge to materialize. “The day I interviewed John, I knew something was special about him, I couldn’t put my finger on it yet,” said Lindsey.
She hired John, but on his first day he put in his two weeks’ notice. His career had other plans. Lindsey emphasized, “I was so torn! But I was happy that maybe there was a spark between us and I could get to know him better.” During the two weeks that they worked together, the chemistry blossomed, and on the last day John worked for Lindsey, she asked him out on a date. She recalled that Barley Oak was officially their first date, however if you asked John, he would say that their true first date was in New Orleans. They spent a fabulous evening on Magazine Street where he introduced Lindsey to his other love, hot dogs at Dat Dog.
In Summer of 2017, the couple wanted to take a U.S. tour and decided upon a 2-week road trip along California’s famous Highway 1. While in San Diego, Lindsey had been told of an amazing cliff with wild seals and that it was a must-see. She and John bought two cinnamon buns and found a small grassy area; perfect for watching the resting seals and sunset over the cliffs together. Before Lindsey could sit down, John was on one knee. He proposed on the cliff, with the sunset, seals and cinnamon buns to seal the deal; the ring too, of course.
